Enough of the "monster Jaime". It's a dead horse. Martin is very involved with the show and if he had it in, it's in! Enough of the bitching! No points are valid after MARTIN IS GOOD WITH IT. HIs world, his characters, his rules. Stfu

Actually, he specifically said on his blog that he had absolutely NO say or involvement with the choice to put in the rape scene. So your main point here is based on a false assumption.

Here is the response he posted on his blog, which has this to say:

"we never discussed this scene, to the best of my recollection"

GRRM never discussed the rape scene with the show runners. At all. An exact quote, from his own blog. That is definitely not “very involved” with this part of the show. This was a decision made by the showrunners without any prior approval from the author. They changed it, and that had nothing to do with Martin. He says there that he kind of understands why his version of the scene wouldn’t work in the show, but he never endorses their version either. So yeah, it may be his world, but this scene wasn’t.

And that’s actually part of what’s upsetting me, because the books are so great! They have amazing female characters, and while the world is brutal, it’s never condoned in a narrative sense. His books do a wonderful job of exploring female agency and power in a world stacked against them. It’s part of what I admire most about his writing! HE’S JUST SUCH AN AMAZING WRITER.

And now they’re making “Game of Thrones” synonymous with “racy shock value and boobs” which is the opposite of what the books are.

It’s just painful, as a huge fan with so much respect for his work, to see it twisted and make into such an inferior product with such damaging messages.

I’d also like to make the point that even if Martin HAD been involved in this choice, that still doesn’t mean that no one should ever call him out on it! If an author writes things that treat women in a negative way (like the way the show seems to imply that this was some sort of deserved revenge) they need to be confronted. Period. The points are absolutely still valid, original author or not. Though of course, since Martin had nothing to do with that scene, this is a moot point here. It’s the show guys I’m mad at.

I will say also, I’ve made less than 5 posts about this issue, i think, and the only reason I reblogged even that small number is because each had something different to add and some good points to make. And I stand by that. I’m not going to ignore this issue, because it’s important.

And the reason it’s important to me isn’t just that they are giving a series I love a bad name, but also because of the straight up harmful messages.

The director who shot that scene went on record as saying he didn’t think it was nonconsentual. Even though she said no. Even though she was struggling.

What kind of message does that send!? It’s quite frankly appalling.

Fans NEED to make it clear to the people who make the show that we expect better. And sometimes that means beating a dead horse.

Isaac Clarke, honorary field surgeon and winner of the “World’s Unluckiest Engineer” award from interstellar horrorfest "Dead Space" - now given a little pixel doodle based on his pearly white Military Suit.

If the Necromorphs don’t get him, his dry cleaner certainly might after it is all over.
